HomeNurse Vice President
Al Nelwan completed his service to his country as a West
Point graduate and army infantry officer many years ago;
however, that has not stopped his support of our country's
veterans.
Al participated as a rider in a charity motorcycle ride
called "Ride For The Troops." This annual event raises funds
for a charitable organization called Operation Sandbox GA.
The funds are used for the purchase, preparation, assembly,
and delivery of
thousands of care packages and Christmas stockings, along
with cards and
letters, to not only Georgia's troops but also the US troops
of all
branches of the military stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Over 400 enthusiastic motorcyclists started the 50-mile ride
in Conyers,
and were police-escorted throughout the beautiful
countryside of Rockdale
and Newton Counties.
About Operation Sandbox.
Operation Sandbox GA Started in November of 2004 by
co-founders Julie and Virginia Pearson. Julie saw a need to
show support and appreciation to our military through
letters and care packages when her finance’ went back to
Iraq for his second tour. Virginia asked for support from
their church family and received an overwhelming response.
What started out as a one time project to send 32 extra
large Christmas stockings, totaling 420 lbs to Julie’s
fiancé's unit in Iraq, rapidly expanded. Not only was the
response great from church members, but weeks later the
project was being supported by other churches, the
community, businesses, civic organizations and individuals.
It was amazing to see the outpouring of love indicated by
donations of money, time and items needed for our troops.
